Meet Our Leadership Team

Since joining Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. (then known as Taisho Marine & Fire Insurance Co., Ltd.) in 1990, Takehisa (Ted) Chiba has served the company and its international subsidiary continuously. In his board chair roles with MSIG NA and MSIG USA, he is responsible for the marketing and client coordination activities and corporate governance of both entities. Mr Chiba is currently acting as Interim CEO of MSIG NA in addition to his board roles.

Mr. Chiba brings 30+ years of experience in the global insurance markets, managing insurance product development and implementation across a wide variety of industries. He also possesses a decade of experience in the US market, serving in key positions within the US through the critical period when the Mitsui and Sumitomo organizations merged to form MSIG USA—an experience that affords him strong insights into the MSIG USA operation. Since 2022, he has served as Executive Officer in charge of the Americas Operations of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. (MSIJ), responsible for the US, Canada, Brazil, and Mexico businesses. He also previously served as President and CEO of MSIG USA. Mr. Chiba earned a bachelor’s degree in business and commerce from Keio University.

As CEO of MSIG USA, the primary risk retention division of MSIG North America (MSIG NA), Peter McKenna drives the growth vision for all product lines across the company’s comprehensive portfolio of solutions. As a highly experienced and innovative global insurance professional, he brings an unparalleled track record of success as a senior leader with deep expertise in commercial underwriting, distribution, and market relationships.

Prior to joining the Mitsui family of companies as CEO of MS Distribution Holdings, Mr. McKenna managed various insurance businesses in the UK and across the EMEA market. He was CEO of RSG Europe for more than seven years. In addition, during his 23 years at American International Group (AIG), he led the financial lines business in the US, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and served as president of the company’s national accounts and management liability business. Mr. McKenna holds a B.S. in economics from Hobart and William Smith College and an M.B.A. from the Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management.

David Leskauskas applies his 30 years of insurance industry experience and expertise in directing strategic growth in leading MSIG Insurance Services, Inc., our shared services company. With an extensive background in managing complex operations and building high-performing teams, he develops strategies and drives innovation to ensure the efficient, cost-effective delivery of every service that supports our operating companies, including financial, information technology, legal, human resources, and compliance.

Prior to this role, Mr. Leskauskas held key leadership positions with Mitsui Sumitomo Marine Management (U.S.A.), Inc., including executive vice president, deputy chief officer, and chief claims officer. He mostly recently managed our US group insurance companies, including Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company of America, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance USA Inc., and MSIG Specialty Insurance USA Inc., developing strategic plans and directing all aspects of claim operations. His prior experience also includes leading the account services function at Crawford and Company. Mr. Leskauskas holds a B.A. in economics and political science from Drew University and is a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel.

Erik Matson is a veteran insurance and financial services executive with experience in multiple regions worldwide. He co-founded Transverse Insurance Group and served as chairman and CEO through the company’s sale to Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group. He has worked globally across a broad portion of the P&C/specialty insurance segment, running commercial and personal lines, with responsibility for distribution, operations, strategy, and underwriting.

Mr. Matson previously held executive roles with American International Group (AIG), including president for the Americas, CEO for small/medium commercial lines, and leadership of the Lexington Insurance Program businesses. He led several AIG international businesses, including CEMEA (Central Europe/Russia/Middle East and Africa) for the small and medium enterprise segment and specialty lines for emerging markets globally. Mr. Matson’s diverse experience includes founding an innovative wholesale insurance brokerage and serving in product and underwriting roles for one of the world’s largest reinsurers. With an M.B.A. in finance from Monmouth University and a B.A. in economics from Drew University, he retired from the US Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel and serves on the board of MSIG Holdings (USA).
